Rust-madder flowers scatter across a ground of fine black ticking stripes: big open blooms with dark eyes, sprays of small blossoms and berries, and sepia leaves printed over a stripe-and-stipple field, in the burnt orange and black of an antique cotton.
The look is drawn from 19th-century madder-printed calico — the French and English document cottons whose rust reds and inky grounds filled the everyday cupboard. Its orange-and-black palette carries Halloween without a costume in sight, an antique textile that simply happens to keep the season's colors. Available in 9″ dinner and 7″ salad/dessert plates, plus a matching bowl.
